Pediatric Functional Constipation and Whey Protein: A Randomized Clinical Trial

Background: Functional constipation is a chronic gastrointestinal disease in children. Pharmacological treatment of mostly based on the prescription laxatives. In addition to this treatment, complementary therapies were also proposed treat constipation. study, effect whey protein was investigated.
 Method and Materials: A total 56 children with functional within age range 1 16 years included study. Patients randomly divided into intervention (n=28) control groups. The group received 15 g placebo. Both groups 0.4 - 0.8 gr/kg PEG powder. amount adjusted every four days having soft stools. Demographic information collected recorded. Furthermore, fecal consistency, stool frequency, symptoms retention, incontinence, abdominal pain recorded prior at second fourth weeks intervention.
 Results: All patients had daily stools end intervention. At week, mean required amounts powder respectively 0.62 0.28 g/kg groups, which showed significant difference (p value ≤0.001).
